Our rural parish has many traditional buildings. In 2023, 80% of homes had an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of between D and G. Since most homes in the parish are not connected to the mains gas grid, many rely on oil-fired heating to heat their homes.

In 2023, the Parish Council was awarded a grant from the Community Levelling Up Programme to support households with retrofit activities.

When we talk about retrofit, we’re really just talking about updating existing homes or buildings to make them more energy efficient. The main aim is to cut down on energy use and carbon emissions, while also making homes warmer, healthier, and more comfortable to live in.

A major phase of grant-funded work took place in 2023 and 2024. During that time, the project team arranged community events, responded to more than 100 enquiries, and ran a process for households to access advice. Forty-five households engaged with this process and were supported with a range of independent property surveys and the development of improvement plans.

The current phase of this project focuses on sharing what has been learned and encouraging households to access the excellent advice and support that is available.

Through this web page, you can access the following resources:

  • A short animated film – an introduction to retrofitting
  • The Stoke Climsland Parish Retrofit Guide
  • Project reports
  • Contact details to access advice and support

We encourage households, in the first instance, to contact Tamar Energy Community, who are providing your local energy advice service, working in collaboration with Community Energy Plus. You will be able to speak with a knowledgeable, trusted energy advisor for free, impartial advice and support. They can even provide a free retrofit home visit and give information about your home, your options, available grants and funding, and what steps to take next.
